  Silk City Flick Fest
Description:
The Silk City Flick Fest is an independent endeavor designed to showcase the best in independent and student films. Beginning Oct. 8 with an opening gala, the SCFF will include special screenings, panel discussions and live demonstrations throughout a four-day weekend of community involvement and family fun. 10 percent of all proceeds from the Flick Fest will be donated directly to MARC, Inc. Kayak Nature Tour
Description:
Baby Boomers: Kayak Nature Tour At Great Island A great fall excursion. Connecticut Coastal Kayaking, LLC in conjunction with the Recreation Department will provide a three hour/four mile kayaking excursion at Great Island. Explore the salt marsh, islands and the river ecosystem with a certified kayak instructor and environmental interpreter. No previous experience is required and all equipment is provided. We will convoy or car-pool to location from Community Y Recreation Center, 78 North Main Street at 10:30 a.m. Tour is 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Confirmation of departure time and directions will be mailed to all those registered. 9:00am [9:00am] Baby Boomers and Beyond Hiking Club - Step Up To Health
Description:
The Manchester Recreation Department is sponsoring a Baby Boomer Hiking Club. Join our six week hiking club and Step Up To Health, meet new friends, get some fresh air and exercise and experience the beautiful trails located right in your own backyard. We will hike a variety of trails located in the Manchester/Vernon/Bolton area. Geared for beginners, but everyone is welcome. All hikes will be one hour long start to finish. Hikes will be conducted on Saturdays beginning October 3 and concluding November 7 from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. Fee is $24.00 for residents and $30.00 for non- residents. Registration is ongoing at the Center Springs Recreation Department Office, Community “Y” Recreation Center, Mahoney Recreation Center and Town Hall Customer Service Center. Description:
There will be Paper shredding & Electronics recycling on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Enfield, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stanley Jablonski Public Works Complex, 40 Moody Road. Bring your broken, unwanted or obsolete TVs, VCRs, computers, cell phones and other electronic devices to one of these collections and help keep electronics out of the waste stream. Best of all, there is no fee for this service. CRRA is now offering a new service at its residential electronics recycling collections -- paper shredding. Bring your boxes of old papers, canceled checks, bills, records and other materials -- especially those that could enable someone to steal your identity -- to our electronics collections. They'll be safely shredded and recycled, conserving natural resources and protecting your identity. This collection is for residents of Mid-Connecticut Project towns only, which includes Manchester. The Manchester Art Association, Inc is proud to be a part of The Silk City Art -Fest, Sat Oct 10, 2009. Center Park , located in historic downtown Manchester will be place to relax, enjoy the music and take in some fantastic art displays. The art displays will open at 10am, perfect next stop after enjoying some breakfast at one of the many downtown eateries. This event will run from 10am until 6pm. The rain date will be Saturday October 10th. The Manchester Art Association has been bringing artists and community together since 1950. Several galleries are located in Manchester helping to bring color, design and conversations to the community. Description:
The Silk City Flick Fest is teaming up with Spotlight on Connecticut and www.EntertainmentCT.com to present the Silk City Music Fest. Part of the four day Flick Fest, the Music Fest is a free event that will feature some of Connecticut’s best original musicians. On Saturday, October 10, from noon to 6 p.m. local performers will fill the Manchester Community College Bandshell with music. A great way to bring Connecticut musicians together, the Silk City Music Fest will provide a platform for musicians to showcase their talent in front of an audience filled with filmmakers scouting out music for future films. Many of the musicians to be featured are winners of the Local Music Spotlight Contest sponsored by www.CTLIVEMusic.com The Local Music Spotlight Contest highlights three Connecticut musicians each month and allows site visitors to listen to and vote for their favorites. As part of the www.EntertainmentCT.com family, www.CTLIVEMusic.com has been working with local musicians for the past five years to increase the exposure of the large amount of great original music right here in Connecticut.
