Northern District Fall Convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society
- Description:
- The Manchester Silk City Chorus is hosting the 2009 Northeastern District
Fall Convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society on Friday, October 23rd
and Saturday, October 24th. The convention will feature the top 16 choruses
and 26 quartets from New England, Quebec, eastern New York and the Canadian
Maritime provinces. The contests are scheduled for 6:00PM on Friday
(quartet semifinals), 11:00AM on Saturday (chorus finals), and 7:00PM
(quartet finals) on Saturday night at Bailey Auditorium, Manchester High
School. Open to public, fee charged.

[9:00am] Manchester Historical Society's Tag Sale EXTENDED
- Description:
- The Manchester Historical Society's Tag Sale has been extended by popular demand to Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24 from 9 to 4 at the History Center, 175 Pine Street, corner of Forest Street. The tag sale manager, Terry Parla, decided to re-open the popular tag sale for two more days, and says, "No reasonable offer refused." The 5,000-square-foot display area has books, small furniture, household goods, framed artwork, china, toys, and items both useful and
decorative. Although much was sold in the first days of the tag sale, much remains, and the public is invited to come shop and socialize in the vintage building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in the heart of
the Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District. The former Cheney Machine Shop, an amazing building, has wonderful photographs and artifacts. Parking is available along Pleasant Street.

[4:10pm] Homecoming Parade & Football Game
- Description:
- Annual Homecoming Parade steps off from Purnell Place at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd. Parade will proceed up Main Street, East Center Street and onto Brookfield Street. A reviewing stand will be stationed on Brookfield Street between Middle Tpke and Durkin Street. Awards presentation will follow the parade in the Brookfield Street parking lot.
Homecoming Football Game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, October 23rd in Memorial Stadium. Crowning of this year's Homecoming King and Queen along with a performance from the MHS Marching Band is scheduled for halftime of the game. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

- Don't forget our ongoing event, Fish Night, held every Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at American Legion Post 102, 20 American Legion Drive. Come and dine on a delicious Fish Dinner. - Description:
- On Friday, October 23 the MCC International Film Festival will present The Drummer (Hong Kong/Taiwan), 7 pm in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium. Sid (played by Jackie
Chan’s son Jaycee), the rebellious son of a controlling and savage crime boss in Hong Kong, has to flee to Taiwan upon enraging his father’s
adversary. Hiding out in the mountains, Sid discovers a group of Zen drummers whose mesmerizing art piques his interest, and he requests to join them. Immersed in the world of Zen drumming, Sid morphs into a firm and
focused young man. His independence from the crime life and his father is profoundly challenged, however, when a twist of fate awaits him back home in Hong Kong and forces him to choose between loyalty to his family and his
newfound faith in himself.
