  MCC Farmers’ Market
Description:
The MCC Farmers’ Market features local farmers throughout the region and will be held in the Lowe Building and MCC Bandshell. A variety of fresh and organic items will be available for sale, including vegetables, fruits, herbs, a variety of plants, beeswax candles, soaps, honey, goat's milk and goat's cheese. Northern District Fall Convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society
Description:
The Manchester Silk City Chorus is hosting the 2009 Northeastern District Fall Convention of the Barbershop Harmony Society on Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th. The convention will feature the top 16 choruses and 26 quartets from New England, Quebec, eastern New York and the Canadian Maritime provinces. The contests are scheduled for 6:00PM on Friday (quartet semifinals), 11:00AM on Saturday (chorus finals), and 7:00PM (quartet finals) on Saturday night at Bailey Auditorium, Manchester High School. Open to public, fee charged.

Description:
The MHS Robotics team is hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser October 24th, 8am to 10am at Applebee's of Manchester, 191 Deming Street. The Team is gearing up for another successful year! 9:00am [9:00am] Baby Boomers and Beyond Hiking Club - Step Up To Health
Description:
The Manchester Recreation Department is sponsoring a Baby Boomer Hiking Club. Join our six week hiking club and Step Up To Health, meet new friends, get some fresh air and exercise and experience the beautiful trails located right in your own backyard. We will hike a variety of trails located in the Manchester/Vernon/Bolton area. Geared for beginners, but everyone is welcome. All hikes will be one hour long start to finish. Hikes will be conducted on Saturdays beginning October 3 and concluding November 7 from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. Fee is $24.00 for residents and $30.00 for non- residents. Registration is ongoing at the Center Springs Recreation Department Office, Community “Y” Recreation Center, Mahoney Recreation Center and Town Hall Customer Service Center. [9:00am] Manchester Historical Society's Tag Sale EXTENDED
Description:
The Manchester Historical Society's Tag Sale has been extended by popular demand to Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24 from 9 to 4 at the History Center, 175 Pine Street, corner of Forest Street. The tag sale manager, Terry Parla, decided to re-open the popular tag sale for two more days, and says, "No reasonable offer refused." The 5,000-square-foot display area has books, small furniture, household goods, framed artwork, china, toys, and items both useful and decorative. Although much was sold in the first days of the tag sale, much remains, and the public is invited to come shop and socialize in the vintage building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in the heart of the Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District. The former Cheney Machine Shop, an amazing building, has wonderful photographs and artifacts. Parking is available along Pleasant Street.

Description:
Saturday, Oct. 24 will also feature the MCC Craft Fair, to be held in Lowe Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. which attracts crafters from throughout the region. The Craft Fair is free and will feature hand-made crafts, including clothing, furniture, jewelry and other original items. Description:
Halloween Happenings: A Safe Downtown Manchester Trick-or-Treat. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. The Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St., will host a magic show with magician “Danny Magic” from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The following activities will take place from 11:30 AM to 1 PM: The Manchester Arts Commission will host Chalk the Walk, in Center Park. Children and adults ate invited to create Fall themed chalk drawings on the sidewalks of Center Park. Chalk provided. Children are invited to trick-or-treat downtown businesses with a Welcome Trick-or-Treaters sign displayed. No early birds please. Children’s Pumpkin Decorating will take place in front of the Manchester Antiques Marketplace, 811 Main St. Quantities limited. First come, first served. There will be no Costume Parade this year. 11:00am [11:00am] Foodshare Empty Bowls Project
Description:
Manchester Community College and Foodshare are joining forces to take a stand against hunger with the 12th annual Foodshare Empty Bowls Project, beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the Lowe Building on the MCC Campus. Admission is $15, and includes a handmade pottery bowl and a meal of unlimited soups and breads, desserts and beverages prepared by MCC culinary arts students and area restaurants. The pottery bowls are donated by MCC art students, local ceramic artists, community crafters and area schools. Proceeds from the Empty Bowls Project will benefit Foodshare and its mission to educate and involve the community in finding real, long-term solutions to the problems of poverty and hunger. With every $10 raised by the Empty Bowls Project, Foodshare can distribute $100 worth of food to those people who experience “empty bowls” each year. Description:
Signature Music Man artist Steve Morse and bassist Dave LaRue will be conducting a free guitar and bass seminar at the elegant Cheney Hall, located at 177 Hartford Road in Manchester, Connecticut on Saturday, October 24th at 4:00pm. Seminar highlights will include tips on technique, live demonstrations and a question and answer period. This event is sponsored by DuBaldo Music Center and Ernie Ball/Music Man. Steve Morse is founder of both the Dixie Dregs and the Steve Morse Band, plus lead guitarist for Deep Purple. He also played lead guitar for Kansas. Dave LaRue is the bass player for the Dixie Dregs and the Steve Morse Band, and has also been the touring bassist for Joe Satriani and John Petrucci, among others. The Public is invited to a Legion Riders Spaghetti dinner to be held at the AMERICAN LEGION POST 102, October 24, 2009, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
