[9:00am] Baby Boomers and Beyond Hiking Club - Step Up To Health
- Description:
- The Manchester Recreation Department is sponsoring a Baby Boomer Hiking Club.
Join our six week hiking club and Step Up To Health, meet new friends, get some fresh air and exercise and experience the beautiful trails located right in your own backyard. We will hike a variety of trails located in the Manchester/Vernon/Bolton area. Geared for beginners, but everyone is welcome. All hikes will be one hour long start to finish. Hikes will be conducted on Saturdays beginning October 3 and concluding November 7 from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. Fee is $24.00 for residents and $30.00 for non-
residents.
Registration is ongoing at the Center Springs Recreation Department Office, Community “Y” Recreation Center, Mahoney Recreation Center and Town Hall Customer Service Center.

[9:00am] Town Clerk's Office Open for Absentee Ballot Applications

- The Town Clerk's office will be open from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 31st 2009 to anyone needing to vote by Absentee Ballot.
Qualifications for voting by Absentee Ballot are:
*Manchester resident who is currently registered to vote
*unable to vote at polls due to a disability or illness
*Being absent from town Tuesday, November 3, during the hours that polls are open (6:00am to 8:00 pm)
*being an active member og the military service
*Having duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during the hours that the polls are open
*Having religious tenets that forbid secular activity on the day of the election.

[1:00pm] Cheney Railroad History Walk
- Description:
- There will be a free Cheney Railroad history walk, Saturday, October 31, 1 p.m. meeting at the
North End of Main Street, behind Farr’s Sporting Goods, 2 Main Street. Hikers will have an easy, but bumpy, walk along the former railroad, built in 1869 to connect the Cheney Silk Mills to the main rail line in the North End. At 2.5 miles, it was the longest private railroad in the United States. Children are especially welcome, and will receive a vintage Pennsylvania Railroad
patch. We will hike along the one-mile portion owned by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust, and possibly farther south to Center Springs Park, which will take about 1-3/4 hours round trip. Phone hike leader Susan Barlow (860-643-9776) if questions. There are no restrooms along the route. Important to park at the nearby shopping plaza or Eighth Utilities office building. No dogs, please. Extreme weather cancels.
