History Center Tag Sale
Description:
There will be a Tag Sale Saturday, June 5 to Saturday, June 12 at the History Center, 175 Pine Street, Manchester. Hours: Friday, June 4 Preview from 5-9pm, $5.00 admission; Saturdays, June 5 and June 12 – 9-4pm; Sunday, June 6 – 12-4pm; Monday, June 7 - Friday, June 11 – 10-2pm. Our 5,000 square foot tag sale display area is in the former Cheney machine shop, in the Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District. It is an amazing building, with wonderful photographs and artifacts. Parking is available along Pleasant Street. Description:
The 4th Annual Bower's Invitational PTA Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010, starting at 9 am at Twin Hills Country Club in Coventry, CT. Sign your school's foursome up to win the coveted BIPTA Trophy and earn part of the proceeds from the tournament for your school's PTA. It will be a scramble format with a $100 entry fee per golfer event. Includes 18 holes w/cart, lunch @ the Turn and a buffet banquet at the British American Club on 73 Maple St., Manchester. The cost to attend the banquet only is $20 per person. Golf prizes, raffle and DJ Pat Carroll will be at the banquet following golf. Description:
Monthly American Heart Association classes in Heartsaver CPR; Adult/child CPR from 9:00 to 11:00 AM; Pediatric CPR from 11:00-12:00 noon and Defribrillator Training from 12:00 to 1:00 PM., will be offered by the Manchester, Fire Rescue and EMS Department at it's training room at the Main Station, 75 Center Street, next to the Town Hall. Description:
Manchester Heritage Day begins on Saturday, June 12, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road, celebrating Manchester's history,and the many ethnic groups that live in the town with many FREE activities for young and old throughout the day at locations within the 175-acre Cheney Landmark District. 10:00 a.m. The Salvation Army Band will be welcoming dignitaries and guests in front of Cheney Hall. 10:30 a.m. Opening Ceremonies - Town officials and staff, introduction and welcome, posting of colors. Special ceremony to express pride in local groups. Special events to highlight the Youth of the future. 11 a.m. & 2:15 p.m. Slide show - Cheneys and their mills, by the Manchester Historical Society 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Exhibits of cultural and historic interest inside Cheney Hall - Historical Society. Booths for Past, Present, and Future. Entertainment throughout the day on the patio in front of Cheney Hall (in case of rain, entertainment will take place downstairs in Cheney Hall); 11 to noon: Manchester High School Jazz Band; 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. - Free walk on the Great Lawn, led by Susan Barlow of the Manchester Historical Society. View the town-owned nine acres facing Hartford Road. Description:
The 36th Anniversary New England Fiddle Contest will take place from 10 am-6 pm in Center Park, Main St. Bring your blankets and chairs and get ready to meet friends old and new at this annual 'rite of spring' for the fiddle world. Watch and listen to New England's best fiddlers from age 5 to 85 compete for cash prizes and trophies. Enjoy traditional toe-tapping fiddle music of the judged competition and jam sessions throughout the day. CT's Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club will provide intermission entertainment. Description:
There will be a benefit concert at the Manchester Bicentennial Band Shell at MCC,Exit 1 off I-384 on Saturday, June 12th from 11 am to 3 pm. [12:00pm] Rabies Clinic & Dog Licensing
Description:
A Rabies Clinic & Dog Licensing session as part of "Luv My Pet" Day, will take place from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Firehouse parking lot, 75 Center Street and Town Hall, 41 Center St. Rabies vaccinations will cost $8.00. Three year vaccine given with prior vaccination certificate. Other vacines will be available at low cost. Micro-chipping also available. Licenses must be renewed every June and all dogs must be licensed when they turn 6 months old. Pet owners are encouraged to license their pet that day. The cost is $8.00 for a spayed or neutered dog and $19.00 if the dog is unaltered. Dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be brought in carriers. This event is open to the general public and not exclusive to Manchester residents. Invite a friend to come along, Manchester has the third highest number of dog owners in the State of Connecticut. Description:
MHS Reunion The Manchester High School Class of 1974 and 1975 will host a high school reunion on June 12, 2010 beginning at 6:00 pm. The event will be held at Shea's American Bar and Grill located at 103 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester, CT and the cost will be $30 per person. A cash bar and hors d'oeuvres will be served, live music will be performed by Mass-Conn Fusion, and the attire will be casual. Description:
Saturdays during June, Laurel Park television show: At one time, Laurel Park was a summer delight, with a merry-go-round, zoo, gardens, band-stand, picnic pavilion, and rowboats to rent. This month's television show visits the area where the park used to be, and includes old photos. The show airs at 8 p.m. on Cox cable channel 15 on Saturdays, and the show runs on all the Saturdays of the month. The show changes each month. This Channel 15 broadcasts in Manchester, Glastonbury, South Windsor, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Newington. Some previous local-history shows can be borrowed at Mary Cheney Library, or purchased at the Historical Society Museum Store. Comments from the public are welcome, email Television Show Comments. The television show is produced by Susan Barlow and filmed by Kathryn Wilson of the Historical Society.
