  CELEBRATION OF SMILES DAY/BENEFIT OPERATION SMILE
Description:
APRIL 21 CELEBRATION OF SMILES DAY TO BENEFIT OPERATION SMILE On April 21 local photographer John Garaventa of Garaventa Photography 730 Main St. Manchester, will join together with PPA Charities (the philanthropic arm of Professional Photographers of America) to promote Celebration of Smiles Day. This national fundraising effort will benefit Operation Smile, which treats children around the world who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities. These PPA photographers will provide the gift of an individual portrait session and a desk-size portrait in exchange for a $24 donation to PPA Charities. This donation represents one tenth of $240, the amount needed to help fund a single surgery. The Total donation goes to Operation Smile. All performances of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Little Theatre of Manchester/Cheney Hall for this weekend are canceled due to a death in our family. Ticket holders for this weekend (Thursday through Sunday April 19-22) are welcome to roll over their tickets to the next weekend (April 27, 28, and 29) as available. Description:
An ECHN Community Tag Sale & Bake Sale will take place on Saturday, April 21, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Manchester Memorial Hospital’s Parking Garage, corner of Haynes and Turkington Streets. There will be toys, clothing, and furniture items, as well as baked goods. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the ECHN Bike Connect Nursing Scholarship Fund and the Registered Nurse Clinical Ladder Program. This event will be held rain or shine. ECHN is a not-for-profit health care system serving 19 towns in eastern Connecticut. Description:
Bigelow Brook Greenway Clean Up Day is scheduled for Sat. April 21, 2012 from 9 AM to 12 noon. Meet in front of the Parkade Cinema. Official meeting table will have work gloves and big plastic bags, coffee, donuts and bottled water. The goal is to clean up litter and other debris in and along both sides of Bigelow Brook from the Parkade Cinema downstream out to Middle Turnpike West. This event is open to the general public, rain or shine and is a partnership of the BBGC, the Odyssey Community School and the Manchester Land Conservation Trust. The Prom Dress Closet is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the self-esteem of High School and Middle School girls in the greater Manchester/Bolton area. We achieve this by providing the gift of a prom dress to any high/middle school girl who lacks the means with which to acquire her own. It is our vision that our annual Prom Dress Closet will be the magic venue for every girl in need of a dress for her prom. [1:00pm] Free Land Trust Walk and Commentary
Description:
The Manchester Land Conservation Trust will lead a free walk featuring the old Cheney railroad, remains of which can be seen around Manchester, even though the railroad has been silent since the 1980s. It was built in 1869 to connect the North and South Ends of town. Meet at 1 p.m. April 21st on the sidewalk under the railroad trestle at Center Street, near Edgerton Street. We will visit some unusual engineering sights. The terrain is a bit steep and the walking may be strenuous, so be prepared and wear sturdy shoes and old clothes. Extreme weather cancels.
