The next Senior Center Newcomer’s meeting, open to those 60+ and members, will be held on Wednesday, May 24, in the library. New members will receive introductions to our programs and tour our facility. You must REGISTER with the front office by calling (860) 647-3211 ahead of time so we may properly prepare for your visit. Little Theatre of Manchester’s SONS OF THE PROPHET (playing June 2-18) is the topic of LTM’s next Lunchtime Lecture on May 24, noon-1, at Cheney Hall. Join local writer and theater historian David Garnes, director Debi Freund, and others for a discussion of this acclaimed comedy-drama by award-winning playwright Stephen Karam (The Humans). Set in the steel and coal mining Lehigh Valley of Eastern Pennsylvania, SONS OF THE PROPHET was described in a 2011 The New Yorker review as 'ravishing...at once deep, deft, and beautifully written'. There is a mobile food share at New River Community Church, 314 Woodbridge Street, Manchester, every other Wednesday from 1:00 - 1:30pm. Historic Preservation Awards The Cheney Brothers Historic District Commission and the Manchester Historical Society recognize property owners who have improved their property in a manner that preserves its historic value and character. Through their example these owners show we can enhance the present and future of Manchester without discarding its past. The Commission and the Society wish to recognize property owners who have actively maintained or rehabilitated a building in a manner that respects and preserves that building’s historic architectural integrity and character. We invite you to participate in our Annual Historic Preservation Awards Program. Nominations must be postmarked no later than April 12, 2017. The Awards will be presented during National Preservation Month on May 24, 2017 in the hearing room, Lincoln Center, 494 Main Street. You are invited to attend a FREE public showing of Rick Steves’ one-hour public television special, Luther and the Reformation, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation! Emanuel and Concordia Lutheran Churches in Manchester are hosting a public showing on the big screen for ONE NIGHT ONLY at the Parkade Cinemas. Discussion will follow the viewing of the film. Five hundred years ago, Martin Luther kicked off the Reformation, which ultimately split western European Christianity in two: Catholic and Protestant. In this one-hour public television special — filmed on location in Germany and Rome — Rick Steves traces the dramatic events of this grassroots movement that changed the course of history.
