The Capitol Region East Operating Committee (CREOC) is pleased to announce Tradebe Environmental Services as the new contractor that will provide HHW collection services to the eight member Towns. [10:00am] Pride in Manchester - Trails Day
Connecticut Trails Day free family history hike at Center Springs Park, starting at parking lot at 39 Lodge Drive. Come explore this 55-acre urban park in the geographical center of town. A fairly easy, but hilly, walk on the one-mile loop trail around the park, with an optional, additional half-mile, walk to the Cheney railroad to see the new pedestrian bridge. Led by Susan Barlow, Manchester Land Conservation Trust. Extreme weather cancels. No dogs, please. [11:00am] Donation Drop Off for Land Trust Tag Sale
The Manchester Land Conservation Trust seeks donations for its week-long June tag sale. Drop off donations of books, tools, antiques, glassware, artwork, toys, furniture, sports items, etc. at the cider barn, 330 Bush Hill Road on most Fridays and Saturdays leading up to the tag sale: May 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, and June 2-3 from 11 to 2 each day. Phone for other drop-off times: Terry at 860-643-1823. No computers, TVs, clothing, please. The actual tag sale will be held June 9-17 from 9 to 2 each day. The tag sale raises funds for the Land Trust. The farm trails are open – maybe plan a two-to-three-mile hike while dropping off tag sale items. [6:00pm] Pride in Manchester Concert in the Park
Live music in Center Memorial Park starting at 6:00 p.m. when young people from C.A.S.T. Children's Theater will sing. Bring your signs of love, hope and condolence to our sister city, Manchester, England UK. After the CAST alumni open the evening at 6 p.m., a moment of silence will be held and then a group photo, by drone, will be taken. This photo will be sent to the Lord Mayor of Manchester, UK. Cover to Cover, a local band comprised of almost all Manchester residents, will be the headline band. Brian Lettieri, Steve Palla, Paul Molinari, Jame Z, Mike Polowitzer, all of Manchester and Efrain Aguero of Newington, have been entertaining in a wide variety of venues, summer concert series, and marinas in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island for the past eight years, and is a favorite at Champlin’s Resort and Marina on Block Island. They're also a supporter of a number of local causes, providing time and energy to raise money for the community. With over 100 songs in their repertoire, including the music of Chicago, Van Morrison, Elton John, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Elvis and so many more, they get people singing along and dancing at every event. Food trucks will be available with a wide variety of food and drink and patrons are reminded to come early with blankets and chairs to get the best seating. The park is located in Downtown Manchester, behind Mary Cheney Library, Local food vendors are invited to contact the concert chairperson at Kevin Zingler, to sign up to sell food at the event. Pride blankets will be sold that night as well, $20, cash or check. During intermission, the Pride committee will announce this year's Hometown Heroes.
