[11:00am] Woodbridge Barn Open House
Description:
Woodbridge Barn Restored. The Manchester Historical Society invites the public to free open houses of the restored eighteenth-century barn and the grounds of its Woodbridge farmstead from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on these Sundays: July 9, July 23, August 13, August 27, September 10, September 24, October 8, October 22, and November 12. The farmstead is located in Manchester Green at 495 East Middle Turnpike, near its intersection with Woodbridge Street. Visitors can park at the municipal lot behind the Senior Center, and along the street that runs between the Senior Center and the farmstead itself. From the street, walk to the backyard using the grass driveway between the house and Woodbridge Pizza. The Woodbridge farmstead is on the National Register of Historic Places. Description:
The Manchester Historical Society presents “Strong Women of Purpose” on Sunday, July 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Road. Historic interpreters will discuss the expanding role of three generations of women at the Homestead, from the 1790s to the 1960s, including Electa Woodbridge Cheney (managing an early American home), Ednah Dow Cheney (writer/social reformer), and twin sisters Marjory and Dorothy Cheney (WWI service/elected office). Tour the 1785 house, Keeney Schoolhouse, view our History Garden and learn about WWI “Liberty Gardens.” Donations accepted for the upkeep of the Homestead. Sunday Funday: A fun filled afternoon of activities. First 50 guests will receive a free ice cream sundae! Water activities, including the Biggest Splash Cannonball contest, will be held throughout the day. Prizes will be awarded to participants.
