Newcomers Meeting The next Senior Center Newcomer’s meeting, open to those 60+ and Members will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the library. New members will receive introductions to our programs and tour our facility. You must REGISTER with the front office by calling (860) 647-3211 ahead of time so we may properly prepare for your visit. Description:
The Mobile Food Share will be in the Manchester area on alternate Tuesdays, from 9:00am-9:30am. Come early, this is open to the public. Bring a sturdy grocery bag! 10:00am [10:00am] Manchester Historical Society Celebrates Black History Month
Description:
The Manchester Historical Society presents a Black History Month exhibit weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March 23. Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit describes the six African American soldiers from Manchester who enlisted in the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. There is information on each man with the dates of his military service, the battles in which he fought, and his life after the Civil War. The exhibit is also open on subsequent weekends by appointment; phone 860-647-9983 weekdays to make an appointment. The museum store will be open during exhibit hours for local history books, maps, notecards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and Herald cookbooks. The Cheney silk advertisement exhibit is also on display.

Description:
On Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., there will be a presentation by John Rainaldi, Director of Assessment and Collection. John will discuss and review the tax assistance programs available to Manchester’s senior citizens. This will include information on the Senior Homeowner’s Program, the HELP Program, Veteran’s Programs and various other programs that are offered to qualifying seniors. The Manchester Public Library on 586 Main Street will host its February meeting of Getting Graphic, a book club focused on graphic novels for adults on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at 7 p.m. The February selection is March Book 1 by John Lewis. We are proud to partner with A Hero’s Legacy Comics & Collectibles. Book 1 spans John Lewis’ youth in rural Alabama, his life-changing meeting with Martin Luther King Jr., the rebirth of the Nashville Student Movement, and their battle to tear down segregation through nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, building to a stunning climax on the steps of City Hall. Meetings take place on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Directors’ Room, 494 Main Street, Manchester, Connecticut. The Commission does not meet in July or August.
