  HAM Radio Operator Classes Begin
Description:
Learn to become a Ham radio operator at no cost to you! The Manchester BEARS in conjunction with Manchester Emergency Management Agency is sponsoring a certification class for the basic ham license (technician level). The cost of the class is free. There is no age limit, but youths must take and pass the same test as the adults. Once certified what can you do? You can literally talk to the world – for free! Alternatively, you can join the Manchester Emergency Communications team (known as EMCOMM). Where you can assist with ham radio communications during a large scale emergency (like a blizzard). The Emcomm team practices their radio skills every Tuesday and Thursday evening NETs (participation on these local checkins is encouraged – it is not mandatory). If this is something that interests you and you have additional questions, please see the contact information below. The classes begin Friday February 23 and continue every Friday for 5 weeks, with the review and exam on March 23. The classes are free, but the FCC has a $15.00 test and license fee due on exam night. The classes start at 7:00 PM and finish before 9:30 PM. The classes have a limited number of seats available and tend to fill up quickly. [10:00am] Manchester Historical Society Celebrates Black History Month
Description:
The Manchester Historical Society presents a Black History Month exhibit weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March 23. Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit describes the six African American soldiers from Manchester who enlisted in the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. There is information on each man with the dates of his military service, the battles in which he fought, and his life after the Civil War. The exhibit is also open on subsequent weekends by appointment; phone 860-647-9983 weekdays to make an appointment. The museum store will be open during exhibit hours for local history books, maps, notecards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and Herald cookbooks. The Cheney silk advertisement exhibit is also on display.

Description:
Write Out Loud Open Mic Nights Be a Superstar in a safe space environment as you engage in an uplifting experience centered on youth voice through poetry, song, music, rap and dance. The facilitator is Ryan Parker and the performers are 13-19 yrs. old. The Bremen Town Musicians / Puppet Show What are a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster to do when they have to leave the farm? Try and become world famous musicians, of course! Join CactusHead Puppets for the hilarious tale of four farm animals who set out on the road to Bremen to pursue their dreams of fame and fortune, and come together to create beautiful music and a new home. CactusHead Puppets was started in 2010 by husband and wife team John and Megan Regan. Since then they have created six shows based on favorite, familiar folktales, and have toured throughout New England. Megan and John are both graduates of the University of Connecticut's Puppet Arts program. Megan is originally from the Kansas City area, where she worked with Paul Mesner Puppets. John is from western Massachusetts, and is honored to be performing in the same venues where he saw puppet shows growing up. Show length- 45 min. plus Q&A after the show.
