[10:00am] Manchester Historical Society Celebrates Black History Month
- Description:
- The Manchester Historical Society presents a Black History Month exhibit weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March 23. Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The exhibit describes the six African American soldiers from Manchester who enlisted in the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. There is information on each man with the dates of his military service, the battles in which he fought, and his life after the Civil War.
The exhibit is also open on subsequent weekends by appointment; phone 860-647-9983 weekdays to make an appointment.
The museum store will be open during exhibit hours for local history books, maps, notecards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and Herald cookbooks. The Cheney silk advertisement exhibit is also on display.

- Mysteries on Main Book Discussion for Adults at Manchester Public Library, Monday, March 5, 2018 at 7:00pm. Copenhagen Chief Detective, Carl Morck runs an investigative cold case unit with himself as the only member in Jussi Adler Olsen's "The Keeper of Lost Causes." Fans of the Netflix department Q series will enjoy reading the novel that started it all. Discussion takes place at the Manchester Public Library Howroyd Room. 586 Main Street, Manchester, CT 06040. - The Council will meet on the first Monday of each month, except July and August; meetings are held at the Army & Navy Club, 1090 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040, at 7:30 PM.
The council consists of the Manchester Chapters of American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, The Marine Corps League, The Army & Navy Club, Vietnam Veterans Association and the World War I Association.
