Description:
Kapow!: A Graphic Novel Book Club for Kids – Thursday, April 19th, 2018, 4pm at Mary Cheney Library. Join in on this new monthly book club for 4th – 5th graders! 10:00am [10:00am] Manchester Historical Society Celebrates Black History Month
Description:
The Manchester Historical Society presents a Black History Month exhibit weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March 23. Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit describes the six African American soldiers from Manchester who enlisted in the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. There is information on each man with the dates of his military service, the battles in which he fought, and his life after the Civil War. The exhibit is also open on subsequent weekends by appointment; phone 860-647-9983 weekdays to make an appointment. The museum store will be open during exhibit hours for local history books, maps, notecards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and Herald cookbooks. The Cheney silk advertisement exhibit is also on display.

Description:
Manchester Community Services Council Meeting Join us for the next MCSC meeting Thursday, March 22 at noon at the Chamber of Commerce office, 20 Hartford Rd., Manchester. Our monthly MCSC Meeting is going to be held this Thursday, March 22nd at the Manchester Chamber of Commerce located at 20 Hartford Road from 12- 1 pm. We are thrilled to have lunch provided to us from Trattoria Toscana in Manchester! We have three brief presentations scheduled for the meeting. Dr. Gena Glickman, President of Manchester Community College will discuss a Sex Trafficking workshop that is being put on by the College in partnership with Manchester PD, and the Manchester Rotary Club. Thanks to the support of Dr. Robert Fish, representatives from Selah Freedom will be in Manchester on April 19th to host an awareness weekend. Mary Roche Cronin, Director of Human Services for the Town of Manchester will give a brief overview of the “Neighborhood Assistance Act” and it’s benefits to businesses and non-profits. Molly Devanney, Director of Rebuilding Together of Manchester will give a brief overview of the volunteer organization that, in partnership with the community, rehabilitates the houses of low income homeowners. The program targets the elderly, disabled and families with children, so they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence. REBUILDING TOGETHER is a nonprofit, non-sectarian organization supported entirely by voluntary contributions of time and money. After months of planning and preparation, the program culminates on a National rebuilding usually the last Saturday in April. All repairs are completed on that one day.
