The Manchester C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) is looking for new members.
What is CERT? It’s a team of over 100 individual citizens trained to help the Town in case of an emergecncy when all other responders are either tied up or unable to respond. The team is comprised of 5 major sub teams, Communications Team (ham radio operators), Shelter Management Team (operates the emergency shelters in Town), the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Support Team, the Search and Rescue Team (goes out on Case Mountain to help find lost or hurt persons on Case Mountain) and Fire/Police, who assist the Police and Fire departments at accident scenes and other emergency scenes by controlling traffic and making the area safe for the responders to operate. Also, the team learns how to take care of their family and neighbors during a weather related emergency.
What do I have to do to become a team member? It’s easy: just register for the training class. The class goes for 8 Thursday nights from 6:30 PM to about 9:30 each night, beginning on September 3.

The Child Adoption Resource Association is a non-profit full service adoption agency located in New London serving all of Connecticut. CARA offers free state-wide informational sessions for people interested in finding out more about adoption.

A Child Adoption Resource Association social worker will explain different types of adoption and offer a step-by-step outline to adopting a child.
Adopting a child from Connecticut state foster care through Project Connecticut’s Child, a grant funded low cost adoption program, will be discussed, as well as international and domestic infant adoption.
Participants will leave with a folder of resources to help guide families, couples, or individuals wishing to adopt.

The Manchester C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) is looking for new members.
What is CERT? It’s a team of over 100 individual citizens trained to help the Town in case of an emergecncy when all other responders are either tied up or unable to respond. The team is comprised of 5 major sub teams, Communications Team (ham radio operators), Shelter Management Team (operates the emergency shelters in Town), the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Support Team, the Search and Rescue Team (goes out on Case Mountain to help find lost or hurt persons on Case Mountain) and Fire/Police, who assist the Police and Fire departments at accident scenes and other emergency scenes by controlling traffic and making the area safe for the responders to operate. Also, the team learns how to take care of their family and neighbors during a weather related emergency.
What do I have to do to become a team member? It’s easy: just register for the training class. The class goes for 8 Thursday nights from 6:30 PM to about 9:30 each night, beginning on September 3.

The Clinic, a non-profit agency, serves fourteen towns in eastern Connecticut providing support to children and their families through a variety of programs such as sexual abuse treatment, family preservation, and divorcing parent classes as well as an autism assessment program.
The Auction, is a major fund raising event for the Clinic. More than 100 items will be offered for bidding including a Blu-ray player, golf foursomes with cart, a collection of fine wines, gift certificates from area restaurants and gift baskets.

The Manchester C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) is looking for new members.
What is CERT? It’s a team of over 100 individual citizens trained to help the Town in case of an emergecncy when all other responders are either tied up or unable to respond. The team is comprised of 5 major sub teams, Communications Team (ham radio operators), Shelter Management Team (operates the emergency shelters in Town), the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Support Team, the Search and Rescue Team (goes out on Case Mountain to help find lost or hurt persons on Case Mountain) and Fire/Police, who assist the Police and Fire departments at accident scenes and other emergency scenes by controlling traffic and making the area safe for the responders to operate. Also, the team learns how to take care of their family and neighbors during a weather related emergency.
What do I have to do to become a team member? It’s easy: just register for the training class. The class goes for 8 Thursday nights from 6:30 PM to about 9:30 each night, beginning on September 3.

The Manchester Historical Society's Tag Sale has been extended by popular demand to Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24 from 9 to 4 at the History Center, 175 Pine Street, corner of Forest Street. The tag sale manager, Terry Parla, decided to re-open the popular tag sale for two more days, and says, "No reasonable offer refused." The 5,000-square-foot display area has books, small furniture, household goods, framed artwork, china, toys, and items both useful and
decorative. Although much was sold in the first days of the tag sale, much remains, and the public is invited to come shop and socialize in the vintage building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in the heart of
the Cheney Brothers National Historic Landmark District. The former Cheney Machine Shop, an amazing building, has wonderful photographs and artifacts. Parking is available along Pleasant Street.

Manchester Community College and Foodshare are joining forces to take a stand against hunger with the 12th annual Foodshare Empty Bowls Project, beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 at the Lowe Building on the MCC Campus. Admission is $15, and includes a handmade pottery bowl and a meal of unlimited soups and breads, desserts and beverages prepared by MCC culinary arts students and area restaurants. The pottery bowls are donated by MCC art students, local ceramic artists, community crafters and area schools.
Proceeds from the Empty Bowls Project will benefit Foodshare and its mission to educate and involve the community in finding real, long-term solutions to the problems of poverty and hunger. With every $10 raised by the Empty Bowls Project, Foodshare can distribute $100 worth of food to those people who experience “empty bowls” each year.

There will be a free Cheney Railroad history walk, Saturday, October 31, 1 p.m. meeting at the
North End of Main Street, behind Farr’s Sporting Goods, 2 Main Street. Hikers will have an easy, but bumpy, walk along the former railroad, built in 1869 to connect the Cheney Silk Mills to the main rail line in the North End. At 2.5 miles, it was the longest private railroad in the United States. Children are especially welcome, and will receive a vintage Pennsylvania Railroad
patch. We will hike along the one-mile portion owned by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust, and possibly farther south to Center Springs Park, which will take about 1-3/4 hours round trip.
