Independence Day Celebration

The 30th anniversary of the James Dutch Fogarty Independence Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Manchester Community College. The scheduled rain date is Sunday, July 7 (call 860-647-3162 for rain delay update).

Parking is expected to be a major problem this year due to the shutting down of Parking Lot B at the top of the hill. Due to major reconstruction of that parking lot, parking will be at a minimum and available in Parking Lot C, accessible by Wetherell Street and Hillstown Road to Great Path. A special area has been designated for handicapped parking halfway between Parking Lot C and the Band Shell hill. It is highly recommended that the public come early to access parking.

Because of the anticipated smaller crowd, the chicken barbecue has been eliminated from this year’s program but will return next year. The Committee realizes the barbecue is a tradition for many families and apologizes for this unfortunate decision.

Everything else will remain the same. Other food items available for purchase include hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, soda, cotton candy, ice cream. Children’s activities are free (face painting, petting zoo, inflatable bounces, clowns) and for a nominal fee, pony rides.

Live entertainment on stage at the Bicentennial Band Shell starts with the Bamblusion Band; pop music at its best. Performing at 7:00 p.m. is the powerful David Foster & the Mohegan Sun All-Stars.
The spectacular, all-aerial fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.
