[7:00pm] Manchester Garden Club Meeting
The Manchester Garden Club will resume its monthly meetings Monday September 11, at 7:00 pm. at the newly renovated basement of the Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester The September meeting will start with our speaker Todd Hansen. He will talk on Bonsai Basics: Illusion vs. Reality. Design and horticulture techniques will be discussed. Hanson is a past president of the Bonsai Society of greater Hartford and has had formal training and years of dedicated independent study with Bonsai masters from around the world. He says anyone who can grow a houseplant can grow a Bonsai… you just need a little more information. The meetings are open; the public is encouraged to attend. A $5.00 donation is suggested for non members. The meetings are held the second Monday of the month from September through June. Each meeting will have exciting guest speakers. The active and award winning Manchester Garden Club supports the community through a variety of projects and activities, including designing, planning and maintaining five town gardens, awarding an annual scholarship, and participating in other town and regional gardening and environmental activities. The club’s current goal and focus will support a healthy environment for today and the future , conservation, gardening naturally and assisting pollinators. www.ManchesterGardenClubs.org

[7:00pm] Mysteries on Main Book Discussion for Adults
Please note that this month's meeting is at the Whiton Branch, 100 North Main St., Manchester. The group will be discussing 'Oscar Wilde and a Death of No Importance' by Giles Brandreth. Brandreth, known for his biographies of British royals, presents a Victorian mystery based on real events. Legendary wit Oscar Wilde enlists his friends, Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle and poet Robert Sherard to help investigate the case of a young man whose murder became the inspiration for Wilde's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray.' Copies are available in the Library's Reference Department. The FREE program is open to the public and registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.
