10:00am [10:00am] Manchester Historical Society Celebrates Black History Month
The Manchester Historical Society presents a Black History Month exhibit weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March 23. Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit describes the six African American soldiers from Manchester who enlisted in the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. There is information on each man with the dates of his military service, the battles in which he fought, and his life after the Civil War. The exhibit is also open on subsequent weekends by appointment; phone 860-647-9983 weekdays to make an appointment. The museum store will be open during exhibit hours for local history books, maps, notecards, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and Herald cookbooks. The Cheney silk advertisement exhibit is also on display.

5:00pm [5:30pm] Pride in Manchester Week Commitee Meeting
The 27th annual Pride in Manchester Week is scheduled for the week of June 2nd through the 9th, with traditional and new activities in and around downtown Manchester including; Concert in the Park on June 2, Art in the Park on June 3, Imagine Main Street on June 7 and the Senior Dance on June 8. Volunteers run all of these programs, and many other smaller events that happen during the week. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for March 12th at 5:30 p.m. in the Manchester Room at Town Hall. New volunteers and donors are encouraged and welcome! Kristen J. Tsetsi, Manchester author, Monday, March 12, 2018, 7pm at the Manchester Public Library, 586 Main Street. Kristen J. Tsetsi (https://kristenjtsetsi) is the author of The Age of the Child under her own name, and under the name Chris Jane is the author of the novels The Year of Dan Palace and Pretty Much True (originally published as Homefront under her real name) and the short fiction collection 20 Short Stories. She’s been a cab driver, an adjunct English professor, a reporter and columnist at a daily newspaper, a senior editor and assistant writer to a ghostwriter, an instructor of expressive writing, play writing, and screenwriting, and editor of the literary journal American Fiction (New Rivers Press). The Age of the Child and Pretty Much True will be available for sale and signing. This is a free event and no registration is required. Manchester Garden Club The Manchester Garden Club will meet March 12, at 7:00 pm. at the Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street. Victorious Vegetables! Michael A. Russo is the owner, "farmer- florist " and creative force behind Trout Lily Farm. Recently retired from 33 years in a career as an art educator, Michael is also a certified CT Master Gardener. As a long time member of CTNOFA (Northeast Organic Farmers Association), he is a conscientious grower and maintains a "green" perspective when designing for his clients or growing wholesome produce for his customers. Michael is always looking ahead to what’s next in the floral and organic food universe and is excited about sharing his ideas, designs and concepts with you. The Manchester Garden Club meetings are held on most second Mondays of the month (September through June) The doors open at 6:45 P.M. and meetings start at 7:00 P.M.
