Description:
The Manchester Historical Society invites the public to free open houses of the restored eighteenth-century Woodbridge Barn and the grounds of its Woodbridge farmstead from12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on these Sundays: May 6, 20 and then continuing on the second and fourth Sundays of the month: June 10, 24; July 8, 22; August 12, 26; September 9, 23; October 14, 28. The farmstead is located in Manchester Green at 495 East Middle Turnpike, near its intersection with Woodbridge Street. Visitors can park at the municipal lot behind the Senior Center, and along the street that runs between the Senior Center and the farmstead itself. From the street, walk to the backyard using the grass driveway between the house and Woodbridge Pizza. The Woodbridge farmstead was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Description:
The Manchester Historical Society invites to public to a History Garden planting on Sunday, May 20, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Road. All ages can help in the garden with period tools, and learn about early American plants, practices, and garden wisdom. Community gardener Bettylou Sandy will share practical and historical garden knowledge. Get a glimpse into 18th-century living. Visit the Cheney Homestead (1785) and the Keeney Schoolhouse museums. Try out weaving on our community rag rug. We'll show you how. Rain or shine. This is a free event, but donations are always welcomed for the upkeep of the museum and event expenses.
