Bronx Zoo Trip on Saturday June 23 Call the Lutz Children’s Museum to reserve your seats for their popular bus trip to the Bronx Zoo. Your ticket includes luxury bus transportation and admission to special attractions including the Children’s Zoo, Jungle World, Congo Gorilla Forest, Wild Asia Monorail, Zoo Shuttle and more. They will offer kid-friendly movies and activities on the on the bus, but people of all ages are welcome. [8:00am] Boy Scout Troop 123 Pancake Breakfast
Boy Scout Troop 123 is holding a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday,June 23. Cost is $8.00 per person. Proceeds will help to pay for construction of a bridge on the Risley Pond Loop Trail, for the benefit of the community and the Manchester Land Conservation Trust which maintains the trails. Rotary Music Garden Party & Festival of Art, at the Rotary Music Garden at Charter Oak Park, Manchester Saturday June 23rd from 9 am to Noon. This is a free event - for all ages. You are invited to Play an instrument in the music garden; Draw or Paint with artists Diane McDonald and Mary Bollash from the Manchester Art Association; Dance to live and DJ music (from Into the Groove); See/Hear performances by local musicians including percussionist Lance Kamau James, the town troubadour Bill Ludwig, and the Manchester Cello Ensemble, a collaboration with Manchester High School and the Manchester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale; Watch Theatre in the Park; and buy an ice cream to enjoy. Bring your kids, family, and friends! Rain date is Sunday 6/24. PERCUSSIONISTS/MUSICIANS: At Noon, Percussionist Performer Lance Kamau James will set up a drum circle and you are invited to participate. Bring your percussion instruments and Lance will bring a couple of extra drums. This event has been planned by representatives of several community organizations: The Rotary Club of Manchester, The Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Chorale, The Manchester Public Schools Music Department, Cheney Hall/Little Theatre of Manchester, Manchester Arts Commission, and ECHN. The Silk City Board Game Group, hosted by the Manchester Public Library, will meet on Saturday June 23, 2018 from 12-4:30PM. Join us for a special music-themed (and rock) game day in honor of our summer reading theme, Libraries Rock! Learn to play: Timelines: Music & Cinema; Okey Dokey; Drop Mix; Quartz; Coal Baron; and Box of Rocks. We will be joined by special guest Marshall Britt, designer of Re-chord. Our extensive game library will also be available; no need to bring anything with you! We are pleased to partner with The Time Machine to offer this program. No registration required. Free program! A New Look at Solar Cooking! The Solar Energy Association of CT is presenting a free seminar on solar cooking at St Bridget School Cafeteria, 74 Main St, in Manchester at 2 PM, Saturday June 23rd. The agenda includes, Solar cooking in context, The physics of solar cookers, Survey of solar cooker designs, both DIY & commercial including: Bags, pizza boxes, wooden boxes, dish reflectors, Fresnel lens, small glass tubes, large tubes, a CAD design by the presenters, very large tubes and Others! We will include: Solar cooking parameters, techniques, recipe adjustments, learning curve, a Demonstration of 2 iterations of parabolic small tube device – applied to making tea & coffee and a Demonstration of 2 iterations of nonparabolic large tube device -- applied to making banana bread. In addition, we invite attendees to bring in & show their own designs for solar cookers – please let us know in advance.
