The East Side Neighborhood Blockwatch & the Manchester Police Department will be celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7,with our annual ice cream social, compliments of Royal Ice Cream, at the former firehouse and at the former elementary. In addition, the police will be conducting a child safety seat check. A cruiser and an armored vehicle will also be on display. We hope to also have a K-9 officer join us for this fun evening. The event is open to all Manchester residents. Plenty of parking is available on site. National Night Out events are held annually throughout the country on the first Tuesday in August in an effort to bring communities and their local police area representatives together for the common cause of building a sense of community and trust between the residents and the officers. It is also an opportunity to exhibit neighborhood solidarity. Come support our local anti crime efforts and find out how you can become more involved in your community. The East Side Neighborhood Blockwatch has been in existence for the past thirty years and is made up of concerned citizens wishing to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The group meets each month, usually on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm at 153 Spruce Street, the former firehouse. The ice cream social in August takes the place of our monthly meeting. The group also sponsors two neighborhood clean-ups each year and the next clean-up will take place this fall. We also hold a holiday party each December.
