Art Show: Adeebah; My Life, My Story Continues
An exhibition of drawings by Adeebah Alnemar will show at Unitarian Universalist Society: East October 5 to November 4, 2018. A Muslim refugee from Homs, Syria, Alnemar’s art evocatively depicts the torrent of emotions she experienced fleeing Syria, during the family’s four-year exile in Jordan, upon their arrival in the US on election night November 2016, and while adjusting to this foreign land that is now “home.” On Sunday, October 28, 2018, 6–8 p.m. there will be an artist’s reception combined with a celebration of author Jake Halpern and graphic artist Michael Sloan, winners of a Pulitzer Prize for the New York Times’ graphic narrative series, “Welcome to the New World,” a chronicle of a Syrian family’s arrival and struggle in the US. It is free and open to the public. The reception will be catered by Adeebah’s Middle Eastern Cuisine, the business Alnemar launched. For more information, call 860-646-5151or visit our website.
