[6:30pm] Free Gardening Programs
The Whiton Branch Library will host a series of free gardening programs in conjunction with UCONN Master Gardeners on Tuesdays in May 2019 at 6:30PM. May 7 Sustainable Gardening Sarah Bailey When you garden sustainably, you not only keep the environment healthy, you have fewer ongoing chores in your garden! Learn best management practices for your plants that will enrich your landscape, reduce your chores and result in a garden with fewer pests and diseases. Sarah Bailey is a Certified Advanced Master Gardener and a Connecticut Accredited Nursery Professional. She has worked in the horticultural industry for more than two decades as, variously, a retail nursery manager, a private gardener and garden designer, and a consultant for several landscape firms. May 14 Color in the Garden Susan St. John Some gardens just stand out no matter what time of year it is. They maintain a strong visual image, yet always look different and fresh as the seasons progress. One of the secrets to creating a pleasing and inspiring garden is color. How color works, and the different ways to use it in your garden will be the topic on May 14. How color interacts, relating it to the seasons, and how to develop effective color progression in your garden will all be discussed. Susan St. John is a Connecticut Certified Advanced Master Gardener since 2005. May 21 Composting Christie Kuriger Compost is not only good for the garden – it’s a great way to recycle your kitchen and yard waste. It may seem complicated, but it’s really quite straightforward. Christie will demystify the process and show you how you can enrich your garden with what you already have. Christie Kuriger is a Connecticut Certified Advanced Master Gardener since 2017.
