5:00pm [5:00pm] 8th Annual Things in a Park
The Office of Neighborhoods and Families will be hosting the 8th Annual Things in a Park: Youth Art Exhibit and Book Release at the EastSide Neighborhood Resource Center on May 17, 2019, from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM. The Manchester Community Youth Art Initiativeís Young Writers and Illustrators Program will be releasing their childrenís book, Things in a Park. Every year, students from Manchester High School write, translate and design an original childrenís story. The book is printed through generous funding from Manchester Public Schoolsí Office of Equity and Partnerships and The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The project is focused around promoting early childhood literacy, providing age-appropriate reading material to Manchesterís children, and ensuring that all children can read by Grade 3. All event attendees will receive a book, free of charge, and additional copies will be distributed to all of Manchesterís incoming kindergarten students. In addition to the book release, an art gallery created by Manchesterís K-8 students will be displayed. Focused around the theme of Things in a Park, Manchester Public School students from 8 different schools have created a wholly unique display. Family-oriented activities and crafts will be available, including a Dance Party with DJ Dale, field day events, and a creative painting station. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Manchester Elks and Highland Park Market. First come, first served. Attendance is free, and no registration is required. For more information, contact James Costa at (860)647-3089 or by email at jcosta@manchesterct.gov.
