Run Forever: My Love Affair With The Manchester Road Race

Description: The Whiton Branch Library of the Manchester Public Library will host special guest and running icon Amby Burfoot with Run Forever: My Love Affair With The Manchester Road Race.

Amby Burfoot ran his first Manchester Road Race in November, 1963, when he was a senior in high school in Groton, CT. Indeed, it was his first road race ever, after two short seasons of track and cross-country running. Burfoot so enjoyed the longer distance, the incredible cast of characters (old, young; fast, slow; etc), and the support of the Manchester crowds that he has returned every year since.

The 2018 race will mark his 56th consecutive year in Manchester on Thanksgiving Day morning. Along the way, he has won Manchester seven times, won the Boston Marathon (1968), served as the executive editor of Runner's World magazine, and written multiple books. He hopes to continue running Manchester ... almost forever.

Burfoot will be autographing and selling two of his most popular books--Run Forever ($25) and The Runner's Guide to the Meaning of Life ($10)--before and after his presentation.
