Mary Cheney Library Presents:Women in Poetry

Description: In honor of National Poetry Month, Manchester Community College Professor Jeanine DeRusha will present “Women in Poetry: The World, Broken Open” on Monday April 22nd, 2019 at 7PM at the Manchester Public Library, 586 Main Street.
What challenges have women had to overcome to share their voices in the literary world? This presentation will explore that question while examining the work of three contemporary (1950-current) poets who broke barriers: Anne Sexton, Lucille Clifton, and Natalie Diaz. Professor DeRusha will consider these poets’ life experiences and read some of their poetry.
Jeanine DeRusha earned an MFA in Poetry from the University of Washington. For the past fifteen years, she has taught English at Manchester Community College. She serves as MCC’s Poetry Club adviser and has published poems in Puerto del Sol, American Literary Review, and Connecticut Review.
